Once again, finding myself crawling back to that 'New Post' button lurking in the bottom-right of my screen. It haunts me when I keep deleting my blog posts, and even the page itself. Right now my hands are vigorously typing whilst I am soothed by Ed Sheeran... very smart I must say, brain. Ahh - yes - what I mean to say is that I'm going to do this 'blog' thing-a-ma-jig (because that's gone so well in the past, hasn't it, Alex?). Well, I reckon this will be just a weak attempt to start up again, however, considering my second year of university is all behind me (I know, right?!), I can now focus solely on my portfolio - and hopefully - blog.
So, how have I been, you ask? Actually, funny you should ask, I didn't have the best year I thought I would have at University, but I managed to pull it back and still get very decent grades (might even be looking at a 1:1 overall this year!). My large group project this year, Junior / Senior Game Dev & Testing, was quite drastic, again, I must assure you that I still tried my best, and achieved greatly. My other units I can't complain, either, they have pushed the boundaries of my abilities and helped me hone my skills in design. My weakest subject, Rapid Games Prototyping, I didn't do as well as I did in my other units, however, it birthed the idea for the project I am doing for my Final Year Project next year. (More information on that soon, when I start designing it.)
Enough about the past, let's talk the present for a moment. It's my fourth day as part of my Boot Camp experience, where I, and a group of Staff and Students, work together to create a level for an already existing iOS Game; Dino-Dude. Through these last four days I have designed content, level components, and narrative for the level, and developed the level using the assets provided by the Art and Tech team. Tomorrow is the last day, and - wow - it's going to be a stressful one as there is so much work to do. Overall my experience during Boot Camp has been amazing. I have learned so much in the last week, and it's helped me when thinking about my own designs. In addition, I will have a level in an actual released game! Portfolio, here it comes!
And what's the future for this aspiring Game Designer and over-user-of-words? Well, next week I will be having a slight relaxation to clear my head and catch up on my personal agenda. After that I will be finishing my Arcade Game Project, and have it up on my portfolio hopefully within the next month or so. Secondly, I will be starting to design my FYP project for next year, and attempting to find a programmer to help me out with it. Thirdly, I will look at where I stand with those two out of the way. I have an idea to create a level using the Skyrim Editor, a board-game idea with my friend; James, or even a COMPLETELY new project based around one, very intuitive mechanic; for a mobile-device. But I'll get to that when the time comes. Right now, I need to be fresh-faced and early for tomorrow!
Hope you enjoyed my blog, I'll try to post more, I want to feel more natural with my writing first so let's see how that goes. Until next week! (Hopefully)
